About

A reimagined MBA
We built our specialist one-year part-time Executive MSc Social Business and Entrepreneurship programme (EMSBE) at LSE to support, what we consider to be, the most important movement in the world – sustainability-driven, impact-driven and purpose-driven action.

We have come to the view that MBAs, governing entirely how we think about starting, funding, and running firms for 70 years, have had a negative influence on the state of the world. They have prioritised shareholder returns over social impact and have minimised the negative effects and extractive practices on the globe.

Making a profit doesn't have to mean compromising on social purpose. Designed for working professionals, our Executive MSc programme is a reimagined MBA that takes a fresh impact-focused approach to traditional MBA topics. You will gain the knowledge and skills needed to undertake a career in social business, whether that be bringing purpose to your corporate role, launching your own social enterprise, or transitioning to an impact-driven industry.

LSE is a world-leading university dedicated to the social sciences.
We're a global community of people and ideas in the heart of central London. We're a specialist social sciences university, ranking sixth in the world in the QS subject rankings 2024 and first in London in the The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2024, Guardian Best UK Universities Guide 2024 and, for the 12th year running, by the Complete University Guide 2024.

LSE offers a unique opportunity to study the social sciences in a university institution with a worldwide academic reputation, while enjoying the cultural, social and recreational facilities of one of the world's greatest capital cities.

The Marshall Institute
At the Marshall Institute, we work to improve the impact and effectiveness of private action for public benefit. By private action we mean the activities of philanthropic foundations, social entrepreneurs, charities, NGOs and purpose-driven corporations that seek to create a positive impact in the world.

“This programme helped me cut out ‘buzzwords’ surrounding entrepreneurship and get to the core of the possibilities and challenges facing ventures. I work in a lot of organisations and sit on numerous boards, it’s great to not be the eighth person in the room with an MBA. The EMSBE enabled me to understand the hybrid economy and the intersection between profit and making a positive impact. As a businessperson, I feel strengthened and secure in how to navigate a changing economy.” Chief Commercial Officer, Breakable Films
Johannes Hobham EMSBE Graduate, Class of 2021
“After two decades in government and nonprofit organizations, I landed a dream job at a social impact venture in Europe. While I was more than qualified to manage public affairs, I felt like a fish out of water when it came to other parts of our fast-growth startup. I needed to level up my business skills but in an environment that fit my values. The EMSBE program checked those boxes and much more. The top-notch faculty, the rich diversity of our cohort, and the mission-driven ethos of the Marshall Institute combined for a life-changing experience. When the time comes, I now feel prepared to launch my own entrepreneurial venture and beat the start-up odds." VP Global Public Affairs, Mosa Meat
Robert Jones EMSBE Graduate, Class of 2022
